How are advances in manufacturing technology affecting UK economic growth?
Dr. Clive Hickman, a Campden resident, is the Chief Executive of the Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) in Coventry. MTC strives to challenge the boundaries of manufacturing, applying ground-breaking, innovative research from academia commercially across a range of industrial sectors as part of the High Value Manufacturing Catapult. In 2017/18, the UK was the 9th largest manufacturer in the world, compared to 12th in 2011/2012.
This increase in ranking is based on growth in high value advanced manufacturing technologies where the UK has a leading position. Clive will look at how MTC is influencing this through world leading positioning in 3D printing, intelligent automation and digital engineering (considered to be the 4th Industrial Revolution) and how these technologies will revolutionise the world we live in as we know it, from the UK Construction industry to the Aerospace sector.
