I hope you have enjoyed the fine weather this summer although our lawns have taken a beating. In this newsletter I will bring you up to date on the CDC Local Plan which has been approved by the Inspector, our planned talks for October and November and the latest position on the car park at Wolds End.
CDC LOCAL PLAN:
As you know The Society together with the Town Council made representations at every stage of the process. Our position has always been to oppose the CDC proposal to site the requirement for new housing at Aston Road. Unfortunately the Inspector agreed with CDC and the Local Plan is now formally agreed. This means a further 36 houses are proposed to be built there in addition to the already agreed 40 houses making 76 in total. The Town Council argued in their draft Neighbourhood Plan that the remaining new housing could be met by windfall sites in the period to 2031. The Inspector noted this but did not believe it could be achieved.I have gone through the Inspector’s Report and extracted all references to Chipping Campden. If anyone cannot sleep I am happy to email this document to them!
TALKS:
We have scheduled two talks before Christmas. The first one is on Thursday 25th October in the Town Hall at 7.00 for 7.30. The following is the entry going in the Bulletin:
Cotswold National Park?
There appears to be enthusiasm for The Cotswolds to be considered as a potential new National Park.
Martin Lane Director of The Cotswold Conservation Board will give a talk on what a change would mean, the preparatory work for a submission and the prospects for success.
Background:
The Cotswold Conservation Board is an independent statutory board that works to conserve and enhance the natural beauty of The Cotswold Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty(AONB) and develop a greater understanding and enjoyment of the area. It was established by Parliamentary Order in 2004 and is one of only two Conservation boards in the country, the other being The Chilterns.The Government has established the Glover Review of National Parks and AONBs. It is an opportunity for new areas to be considered for National Park status. The Conservation Board is liaising with interested bodies over the potential for a case to be made for the Cotswolds.
The second talk on Thursday 22nd November 2018 is entitled The Cotswold Way 100 miles of History.
Wolds End Car Park:
At the AGM I reported that after taking advice from the Charities Commission on process, we have appointed Savills and solicitors to investigate suitable development options to provide the funding for a car park. This work is in hand and I will keep you up to date with progress.
